HOTEL IN THE HEART OF BOLOGNA
Art Hotel Orologio’s story
Our history began in the 1960s when Libertario and Anna Orsi purchased the Hotel dei Commercianti and later the Hotel Orologio.
In the years that followed, their two sons Mauro and Paolo Orsi, with their wives Cristina and Serena at their side, carried on the business and energetically began major renovations in order to recreate a style in harmony with the stunning setting of Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore.
Later it is Cristina who continues the management of the business, always proposing new structural and technological improvements. Meanwhile, the new generations step forward, and her grandchildren Irene, Giorgio and Eugenio add enthusiasm and new energy, while respecting the hotel’s tradition

The name “Orologio”
The leit motif of clocks originates from the hotel’s name “Orologio”, which means “clock” in italian and it refers to the monumental Clock Tower of the Town Hall across the street.
Over the years, we have brought to life a fine collection of vintage clocks, which now adorn all the common areas, rooms and apartments.

An historic building.
A unique location, Piazza Maggiore.
The history of the building has very distant origins. Since the mid-1200s it was part of a complex connected with a church that, with various names and remakes, was an uninterrupted place of worship until 1637. The structure was given to a confraternity of various trades who, over the years, adorned it with frescoes and paintings by famous painters of the time and renovated it to the design of architect Angelo Venturoli.
The company was suppressed on August 1, 1798, and the complex was put up for sale. A period of decline followed in which various stores were installed, including a “ferrareccia” store, a butcher’s store, a “chapeler’s” store, a “shoemaker’s” store and some rooms on the upper floors.
Probably, only in the side part of Via dei Fusari was the oratory with the small sacristy maintained.
In the mid-19th century the building took on its present appearance, and from October 15, 1914 it became a hotel. Since then the business has never been interrupted: from the first manager Oreste Grazioli and, after several changes of ownership, it led in 1981 to the current owners: the Orsi family.
